What to wear in Bali: my resort packing list

For Bali, I would pack a relaxed dress, separates for time out of the water and an outfit for dinner. Hot and humid days make it useful to think about how each outfit feels when you move and sit, as well as how it looks. My resort packing list starts with pieces you can try together before leaving, then adds familiar sandals and the everyday items you already use.

A linen dress for an easy day out

The Gaia Dress in Sorbet Yellow is where I would start. Its linen fabric, relaxed maxi silhouette and discreet side pockets give this edit a loose-fitting option. The back is open, so I would try it with the underwear I intend to pack and check that everything sits as I want it to.

I would wear the dress with flat sandals for a relaxed meal or time spent around the hotel. Check the length with those shoes, particularly if you usually try dresses on in heels. A bag that is comfortable to carry keeps the rest of the outfit simple. I would also pack a layer from my own wardrobe for air-conditioned interiors. Before deciding that a piece belongs in your suitcase, try it seated as well as standing and take a few steps in the full outfit. That practical check is more useful than packing extra alternatives you have never worn together.

A structured linen pairing

For an outing where I want a more defined shape, I would pair the Nina Corset Black Linen with the Tulum Mini Skirt Black Linen. Both descriptions specify linen. The corset has heavy boning, a sweetheart front and a back zip. The mini skirt has a side slit, twist detail and side zip.

I would choose this outfit deliberately for a shorter outing or meal, and keep the relaxed dress for a day when I want a looser fit. The fabric alone does not determine how an outfit feels: this corset has structure, and the skirt is a mini. Try both pieces together, check where the waistband meets the corset and make sure you can sit comfortably. A flat sandal would be my first styling option. I would take a simple shirt from home too, so the skirt can be worn another way without adding another complete outfit. Look after the corset's shape when packing it, keeping it away from heavy items.

Malia for time beside the pool

The Malia Blouse Acqua Silver and Malia Sarong Acqua Silver are a proposed outfit for time out of the pool. The blouse has balloon sleeves with elasticated wrists and an adjustable ring detail. The sarong has a side tie and wrap-style silhouette. Both product descriptions identify a blend of polyester, lurex and viscose.

I would try the ties and sleeves before the trip so changing into the outfit feels familiar. The sarong's side tie lets you adjust its position; check it while sitting as well as standing. These are resort clothes, so I would pack separate swimwear and keep this pairing dry. Sandals and a small bag are enough to start with. I would let the sleeve shape remain visible and choose jewellery that does not catch against the fabric. Pack a separate bag for wet swimwear so it stays away from the rest of your clothing. The blouse and sarong are sold individually, which lets you choose the fit of each piece.

Printed separates for dinner

For dinner, I would choose the Nammos Kimono Top and Nammos Skirt. Their descriptions specify a blue and white print in a silk blend. The top is cropped, with wide sleeves. The skirt is long, with a high boned waist and a slit.

I would try the crop and waistband together before choosing sizes. The top gives the outfit volume through the sleeves, while the skirt gives it structure through the waist. Start with a simple sandal and check the hem as you walk. I would keep the print as the focus and avoid a bag strap that pulls across the sleeve. If you want another dinner option, try the skirt with a plain top you already own before packing it. That gives you a second combination built around the same piece. Follow the care instructions for both garments and plan where you will hang them when you unpack.

My packing list

I would pack the Gaia dress; the Nina corset and Tulum mini skirt; the Malia blouse and sarong; and the Nammos kimono top and skirt. Then I would add sandals, sunglasses, swimwear, underwear, a plain shirt, a light layer and a bag. Choose the quantities around your own plans and care arrangements. This is a clothing edit for relaxed outings and evenings; check the requirements of any specific place you plan to visit before choosing an outfit for it.
